Microsoft And Amazon To Launch Own-branded Smartphones, Release Date Might Be Mid 2013

Both the Microsoft software giant and Amazon are working around the clock to strengthen there ecosystems with new devices and services. Both companies have launched hig-end tablets earlier this year, Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 RT and Amazon with the new line-up of Kindle Fire tablets, running on a highly customized version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android OS.

Despite a slow start regarding the sales of the Microsoft Surface with Windows RT tablet, the Redmond-based company is definitely interested in launching new in-house build devices. BGR reports that Microsoft is working hard to finish its own-branded Windows Phone 8 smartphone, which will most likely go on sale as Surface WP8.

The journalists of Wall Street Journal backed up the rumors, adding that the software giant is willing to sing partnership deals with Asia-based part suppliers for its new smartphones family, which will supposedly come with 4.5+ inch displays.

On the other hand, Digitimes informs that Microsoft has already chosen a partner for the new Surface smartphone: the China-based company of Foxconn, known for its collaboration with Apple. The same Asian source claims, quoting sources inside Foxconn, that the same China-based company will also manufacture Amazon’s new smartphone.

Rumor has it that both Microsoft and Amazon have scheduled the launch of their new smartphones for mid 2013.
