ZTE Working On Octo-core Smartphone, Release Date Might Be Next Year

The quad-core smartphones were undoubtedly the stars of 2012, but now you should prepare for a 2013 where octo-core will be the new trend. The latest rumors are coming straight from China, saying that the ZTE is currently working at a terminal code-named Apache. What’s so special about it? Well, it sports an octo-core processor from Mediatek.

The guys at Chinatimes are saying that MediaTek were chosen over Qualcomm and Nvidia when it comes to supplying components for the next-gen ZTE flagship. The result is an MT6599 ARM15 chip using 28 nm technology from TSMC.

Sources are indicating that the technical specifications list of ZTE Apache also include a full HD 1080p display, 13 megapixel camera, WCDMA, 4G LTE, TD-SCDMA. If the rumors are accurate, then the China-based giants Huawei and ZTE will continue their growth and continue to attack the European market, where there are already a couple of highly-appreciated Huawei and ZTE terminals.

Let’s hope that ZTE Apache will not have the same faith as Huawei’s D-Quad, a terminal that never saw the light of day after it was officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2012.

I haven’t seen Huawei D-Quad reviews, prices, or hands-on videos, maybe just some benchmark tests and details on some Russian websites. Are we already ready for octo-core smartphones?
