HTC J Butterfly Brings 5-inch Full HD Display And Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

A Japanese company was the first to introduce a 5-inch smartphone display with full HD resolution. I am talking about Sharp, but today’s hero is a smartphone coming from Taiwan, but it will go on sale at a Japan-based carrier, KDDI. It’s the HTC J Butterfly a device that reminds me of the design of the HTC phablet that made the headlines over the last few months. There were some leaked photos showing a 5-inch HTC smartphone branded by Verizon, but it seems that it arrived at KDDI, after all.

HTC J Butterfly is an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-powered smartphone with a display pixel density of 440 ppi, plus a 5-inch Super LCD 3 on board and a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5 GHz.

On the back of the HTC J Butterfly you will find an 8 megapixel camera that supports 1080p video capture, while the front panel accommodates a 2.1 megapixel camera for video calls. The technical specifications list includes 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a slot for microSDHC cards. The 5-inch full HD smartphone also comes with WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and LTE.

The smartphone weighs in 140 grams and is water resistant, a feature that is quite common for the Japanese market. There’s a 2,020 mAh battery under HTC J Butterfly’s case, a unit that will hopefully provide enough power for the big display and the powerful processor.

Will HTC extend J Butterfly’s on other markets, too? We don’t know yet, but we truly hope they will as it will be an interesting rival for LG Optimus Vu 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
