First iPhone 5 Reviews Hit The Web

Today is a big day for the Apple fans as the shipping of the iPhone 5 has officially begun today. The new iOS 6-powered smartphone also arrived in the editorial office of the big tech publications and the journalists were able to compile the first iPhone 5 reviews. Here’s what some of the major tech websites think about the Apple’s newest toy.

“The iPhone 5 completely rebuilds the iPhone on a framework of new features and design, addressing its major previous shortcomings. It’s absolutely the best iPhone to date, and it easily secures its place in the top tier of the smartphone universe,” reads CNet‘s iPhone 5 review article.

In CNet’s opinion the iPhone 5′s ace up the sleeve is the bigger display, the faster processor and the 4G LTE support.

The editors are also praising the smartphone’s design, but also the low weight of the gadget. The iPhone 5 didn’t score points when it came to NFC implementation (that is nowhere to be found) and the size of the display that is no match for the high-end Android smartphones.

“[...] you really have to hold it [the iPhone5] in your hand to appreciate: neither photos nor words can quite do the accuracy of the construction and precise tolerances justice,” said the SlashGear review.

The reputed publication talks positively about the new design and the aluminium back if the smartphone, but also about the thinner touch panel with Retina Display technology. They say that iPhone 5′s biggest advantage is that “the iPhone 5 has the best balance of everyday usability and performance.”

In Engaget editors’ opinion, “the iPhone 5 is a significant improvement over the iPhone 4S in nearly every regard.” The Engaget iPhone 5 review gives 5 stars for design and performance, but criticizes the operating system, because no major updates was included.

Tim Stevens sums up saying that the iPhone 5 will not persuade the Android or Windows Phone uses to switch to Apple, but for those who already love the company’s products this is the product that they were waiting for.

The guys at AllThingsD, the tech division of Wall Street Journal, find “the new iPhone screen much easier to hold and manipulate.”

“Apple has taken an already great product and made it better, overall. Consumers who prefer huge screens or certain marginal features have plenty of other choices, but the iPhone 5 is an excellent choice,” lays written in the AllThingsD iPhone 5 review, which recommends the upgrade to any iPhone user, adding that the iPhone 4S users might as well just update to iOS 6 and be just fine.

There are three factors behind Apple’s popularity: design, high-quality components and compatibility, writes NYTimes, praising the iPhone’s quality and performance, but attacking the new dock connector.

Apple sells the adapters for the new dock connector for $30 or $40, which are “a jab in the eye” of loyal Apple customers, as they can generate significant expenditure for those who own numerous accessories. Talking about Apple’s latest smartphone, David Pogue says that “best Windows Phone and Android phones offer similarly impressive speed, beauty and features,” and the American publication recommend the upgrade only for the users who are stuck with iPhone 4 or an older version of the Apple smartphone.
