iPhone 5 Release Date And Price Are September 21st And $199

Oh yeah, it’s finally here! Moreover, the official iPhone 5 release date is September 21st, so in a bit more than a week we will be able to get our hands on the newest Apple smartphone.

Today, at a press event hosted at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, Apple has officially unveiled the new iPhone 5, after months of never-ending iPhone 5 leaked parts and rumors. It’s exactly how the sources described it: taller, slimmer and with a two-tone back. All iPhone 5  rumors have somehow spoiled the surprise, but, even so, the new iOS 6-powered smartphone is one of most important product launches of 2012.

I’ve held my fingers crossed hoping that Tim Cook will hold an iPhone 5 that has nothing in common with the mock-ups and renderings we’ve seen in the past few months. Sorry pals, I wasn’t able to change anything, still the iPhone 5 is finally here and today we got to see it in flesh.

Apple has chosen to stick with the design language introduced in 2010 when the iPhone 4 was officially launched and continued last year by the iPhone 4S. Therefore, we have a rectangular terminal, with rounded corners, but slimmer and taller than the previous two generations. Apple haven’t forgot about the legacy of the first iPhone, so the iPhone 5 comes with a two-tone back, reminiscent of the designed used for the device that revolutionized the world of smartphones.

Even though the design changes are minor, they come to make the day-by-day use even easier. Apple have decided to relocate the 3.5 mm audio jack, which now lays at the bottom end of the iPhone 5, and the FaceTime camera which was placed above the display, in a central potion, but we’ll get back to these a bit later.

Synchronized with the iPhone 5 announcement, Apple also launched the iOS 6 the new firmware version that will be compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch forth gen, iPad 2 and The New iPad. Of course, the new Apple smartphone will run iOS 6 out of the box.

iOS 6 will bring an improved version of Siri, introducing the new Hadsfree Tweeting, which allows you sent tweets by simply talking to your virtual assistant. With the new iOS 6 you will be up to date with the latest news in sports, as Siri can now provide you with information about live games and biographic stats of famous sportsmen. All the data is provided by the Yahoo! Sports service.

Beginning with iOS 6, Siri assistant is also available on iPad, not only on iPhone. From now on, the owners of The New iPad tablet will be able to use Apple’s voice commands system to open apps, access the web or perform various tasks.

The world’s most popular social network, Facebook, has now received iOS 6 integration, and you will bump into it in many of the operating system’s menus. You’ll get Facebook integration with your calendar events and birthdays, and phone numbers and email addresses located in Calendar and Contacts.

Of course, you will now be able to share your photos on Facebook directly from the phone’s gallery, or share links, Game Center scores, favorite apps or even your location. Siri will also receive Facebook integration, now allowing you to dictate your status messages.

The new version of Apple’s mobile platform brings a revamped FaceTime application that allows video calls outside the WiFi range, via 3G or LTE networks.

Apple is giving up on the map services provided by Google and will deliver the iOS 6 with its own Maps application, that features turn-by-turn navigation and general traffic info. The new Maps application is based on components delivered by TomTom, Placebase, Poly9 and C3 Technologies, the last two companies being specialized in 3D maps modeling.

But enough with the chitchat and let’s return to today’s special guest, the iPhone 5. The Cupertino-based company has launched the thinnest iPhone yet, being 1.7 mm thinner than its successor, the iPhone 4S, measuring 123.8 x 58.5 x 7.6 mm.

The iPhone 5 is taller than the previous two generations, because the Apple engineers have fitted a 4-inch Retina Display, with a resolution of 1,136 x 640 pixels (326 ppi pixel density) and 16:9 aspect ration. The display is protected by a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass layer.

Most of the companies are launching smartphones with 4.5+ inch displays, making them ideal for web browsing, gaming and watching videos, Apple decided that 4 inches are enough to make its smartphone comfortable to hold and decent while web browsing. Somewhat a compromise between viewability and  functionality.

The iPhone 5 comes with a brand new Apple A6 SoC based on two cores clocked at 1.2 GHz. Just like the previous generation of processors developed by Apple, the dual-core A5X unit introduced with The New iPad, the A6 SoC comes with a LTE chip, making the iPhone 5 the first 4G-friendly iOS-powered smartphone.

The new A6 SoC promised lighting-fast reactions and paired with the integrated LTE modem will make the iPhone 5 a worthy rival for the likes of Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note or HTC One X.

It was about time for Apple to ditch the always-insufficient 512 MB of RAM of the last two generation of iPhone. Until earlier this year, when The New iPad was introduced, all the Apple smartphones and tablets came with 512 MB of RAM. The iPhone 5 enrolls in the 1 GB of RAM train, in a context where the apps accommodated by the Apple App Store are demanding higher system resources.

The sixth generation of Apple smartphones comes with all the connectivity features worthy of a high end smartphone: 3G, 4G LTE, WiFi in all standards, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS support and GLONASS.

Just like the previous generation, the iPhone 5 comes with an 8 megapixel camera with touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, HDR and full HD 1080p video recording capabilities. The user-facing camera now supports HD video calls, while the new FaceTime app allows videocalling over Wi-Fi and 3G/4G.

That’s about everything you need to know about the slimmest, the fastest, the coolest Apple smartphone yet, the iPhone 5.

As usual, there will be three iPhone 5 internal storage versions available: 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, priced $199, $299 and $399, respectively with a two-year contract.

Oh, I almost forgot! If you want to get your hands on the new iPhone 5 you will be able to pre-order it as of today, then keep the eye on the front door on September 21st when the mailman will arrive with a special package for you. If you want to be among the first to get your hands on the brand new iPhone 5 you can try and pre-order it starting September 14th

from Apple’s official website, but I guess you’ll have to be lucky as the servers will probably crack under the assault of millions of iPhone enthusiasts willing to purchase Apple’s latest release.
