Samsung Confirms Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update For Samsung Galaxy S3 Will Arrive In October

The first rumors about the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 have hit the web in late July, but the official confirmation came earlier this month at Samsung Unpacked event at IFA Berlin 2012. Even though Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was initially seen as a minor update, in fact the new firmware version brings a lot of new features like Extended Notifications, Project Butter, Google Now and Smart Keyboard.

The firmware update that was supposed to arrive mid September is nowhere to be found, yet, but it looks like it will roll out soon. Samsung have officially confirmed that the international variant of Galaxy S3 terminal, will receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware update in October.

Besides the improvements brought be the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, Samsung will also introduce the “Dormant Mode,” which is basically an improved notifications and alerts system, but also a user-friendlier TouchWiz launcher.

Both the UK LTE variant of Samsung Galaxy S3 and the new Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the phablet announced at IFA Berlin 2012, will come pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which gives us hopes that the software tweaks are up and running and that Samsung will respect the deadline this time.

As you probably know, Samsung Galaxy S3 was officially introduced in May and not less than 20 million units have been shipped so far. Samsung Galaxy S3 sports a quad-core Exynos 4 Quad processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, it has 1 GB of RAM, 16/32 GB of internal storage and microSD card slot.

The Android-powered smartphone features all the connectivity features worthy of a flagship smartphone, like WiFi in all standards, Bluetooth, MicroUSB, 3G, 4G LTE (where available), and NFC. The 8 megapixel camera has “zero” shutter lag, LED flash and full HD video recording skills.
