Motorola To Launch Edge-to-edge Smartphone, Aims At Apple’s iPhone 5

Next week will be dominated by news about Nokia and Microsoft, as both companies will launch the next-gen Lumia line-up at Nokia World event, terminals underpinned by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform.

Well, Motorola will also host an important event on September 5th, were the new members of the RAZR tribe are expected to show up. Rumor has it that a highly-anticipated edge-to-edge smartphone will arrive among the new Motorola terminals.

The Motorola event will open its gates on the same day as Nokia’s World conference, so the following Wednesday will be a busy day for the tech industry. In case you are wondering, the rumors regarding the edge-to-edge high-end Motorola smartphone are coming straight from Bloomberg, a credible source. The smartphone enthusiasts were craving for an edge-to-edge terminal for years, and even though there were some voices saying that the iPhone 4 will be the first such device, no company have approach this type of design, so far.

The main fear of the manufacturers is that the users will mistakenly press the edges of the screen, which would result into an annoying experience. Still a new edge-to-edge display would fit perfectly into Google’s¬†philosophy,¬†introduced with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and continued in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, of completely eliminating the front buttons, whether they are capacitive or physical.

It’s been a while since Motorola last launched a truly amazing product on the mobile terminal market and the US-based company, after all the inventor of the mobile phone, is bound to unveil a revolutionary product.

Companies like Sony, HTC or ASUS are trying hard to come with innovative products (see the ASUS PadFone), so why Motorola wouldn’t? Anyway, there are some question marks regarding the processing solution that will be placed inside the edge-to-edge Motorola smartphone, as rumors are pointing towards a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip and a dual-core Intel CPU.
