Carriers Thrilled About BlackBerry 10 Smartphones, Says RIM Official

What stroke me as unusual AllThingsD‘s report wasn’t that RIM is overconfident in the new BlackBerry 10 OS, but that the carriers stringing along with them.

The name of the RIM exec that said that the carriers are “visibly enthusiastic” about the new BlackBerry 10 OS is McLeod, and even though is spelled different from MacLeod, it reminds me of the more popular Quentin MacLeod. Therefore, if the Highlander tells you that BlackBerry 10 OS, you can’t help but take what he says for granted.

Anyway, it seems that the carriers have already got their hands on the new OS and after running some tests they declared their support for BlackBerry 10.

If the rumors and leaks are accurate then some interesting products are about to join RIM’s portfolio in 2013. The rumor mill says that the next-gen RIM smartphones will be underpinned by quad-core Snapdragon S4 chipsets and that will feature HD displays, LTE support, and, of course, the new BlackBerry 10 OS.

Why are the carriers so important in this equation? Because they will be crucial in RIM’s strategy for 2013, as persuading the consumers to buy a BlackBerry is a tougher job than it looks lately. Still with the right services, plans and prices, the BlackBerry smartphones can still have a chance.

McLeod also said that RIM is currently working around the clock to finalize BlackBerry 10 OS and that the Canada-based phone maker is fully confident in their platform.

All I can do now is hope that I was wrong when I  said that RIM has no future on the smartphone market and that the Canadians will be taken over by another company, but it will manage to stay on its feet and get a decent smartphone market share over the next year. Do you still trust Research in Motion? Will the company be able to reborn from ashes?
