Google Nexus 7 16 GB Model Out Of Stock, Sales Temporary Halted

It seems that the new Google Nexus 7 is a real star as the company is facing some trouble with shipping the tablet. The reason is the heavy demand for Google’s device especially for the 16GB version. The company has not expected this kind of request thinking that most of the orders would be made for the 8GB model.

Surprisingly, Google did not estimate the demand for the 16GB Nexus 7 tablet very well. The model has sold out very quickly while the 8GB version doesn’t have the same rate of success. Because of the heavy demand, the company has stopped the orders for the 16GB tablet on its Google Play store in the United States and UK. Of course, the orders that were made until yesterday will be fulfilled. However, a stock problem could only mean that Google will face a gap in sales.

It’s clear that Google has a shortage of stock because in case you want to order a Nexus 7 tablet you will notice that the 8GB model is shown as being in stock and will be sent to you in 3-5 business days, while the 16GB model is not in stock. Only on option is shown meaning that you can “sign up to be notified by email” when the tablet is available.

The 8GB version of the Nexus 7 tablet can’t be purchased from physical retailers as it’s sold only on Google’s store. In spite of the fact that the 8GB model is cheaper (and Google thought that would be a reason for customers to demand it more than the 16GB version), sales are not as high as expected because it seems that double storage space does matter.

Surely Google had a plan before launching the tablet and I think that the reason why the 8GB version of the Nexus 7 tablet is sold only on Google Play is simple. Google thought that the online buyers would be fans of the company’s “cloud” concept which allows them store their content online, instead of keeping it on the device itself (thus 8GB of internal would be more than enough). However, it looks like the customers have noted the fact that they can’t upgrade the storage on the device, so they bought the larger version, just in case.

Even though the company didn’t make any numbers public, Google’s Nexus 7 seems to have a great success. It was designed to compete with Amazon’s Kindle touch and the iPad, but we don’t know that the sales numbers are bigger than the others. A representative from Dixons Retail (store which sells all three tablets) said that the Nexus 7 is very appealing for the customers, but refused to give any details about the sales and how it stands against the iPad and the Kindle Touch.

This is not the first time when Google has problems with delivering the Nexus 7 tablet on time. The company has already extended the delivery dates by up to a week. Regarding Asus, the manufacturing company is believed to increase the production of another series of tablets, but several weeks might pass until the devices will arrive.

People were very excited when Google announced its first tablet and the fact that the demand is huge doesn’t surprise me at all. The Nexus 7 tablet comes in two models meaning the 8GB and the 16GB version. Not expected is the fact that the 16GB is selling better than the cheaper one. However, this is not a bad thing at all, on the contrary it’s more profitable for Google.

So, another affordable player has a great success among customers, after Amazon’s Kindle Fire. We will have to see if the rumors about Apple developing an “iPad Mini” to compete with these two tablets are true. The company refused to comment on the matter.
