10 Million Samsung Galaxy S3 Units Already Sold World Wide

Samsung introduced Galaxy S3 early May 2012, the new flagship smartphone of the South Korea-based company. Samsung Galaxy S3 is available since late May and the flagship smartphone already surpassed the sales estimations, reaching 10 million shipped units ahead of the end of July, making it the fastest-selling Samsung smartphone so far.

In less than two months since Samsung Galaxy S3 debuted in over 140 countries the device has already hit the 10 million sales target. It’s an unprecedented figure for an Android smartphone. Galaxy S3 sales contributed to the 50 million figure, representing the total of smartphones Samsung shipped in the second quarter of 2012.

Shin Jong-kyun’s statement, the president of Samsung’s information technology and mobile communication division,  can be hardly called a surprise, as it was reported that not less than 9 million pre-orderes for Galaxy S3 were posted on the launch day.

With 190,000 units sold daily, Samsung Galaxy S3 overpasses the sales performance of the previous generation of the Samsung flagships. Galaxy S was sold in 24 million copies since July 2010, while its successor, Galaxy S2, needed 10 months to hit the 10 million shipped units milestone. 28 million Samsung Galaxy S2 units were sold so far, since the device debuted in April 2011.

In April 2012, Samsung became the biggest smartphone and phone vendor, taking the crown from Apple and Nokia, respectively. Still, the record for the fastest-selling smartphone ever is held by Apple’s iPhone 4S: not less than 4 million terminals were shipped in the first weekend prior to the debut, while the first fiscal quarter prior to the launch generated sales of over 37 million units.

Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with HD resolution, a quad-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 16 or 32 GB of internal flash storage, microSD card slot with support for up to 64 GB, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, 8 megapixel camera with support for full HD video recording and 2,100 mAh battery.

We are expecting to see how long it will take Samsung Galaxy S3 to hit 20 million sales milestone.

What’s for sure is that the new Galaxy S3 is a huge success for Samsung, the new flagship smartphone pushing the South Korean company a few steps ahead of the competition. Now Apple has to come up with a worthy rival, the iPhone 5, which will be released in Q4 2012.
