HTC Smartphone With 1.7 GHz Quad-core CPU And Android 4.0.4 ICS Shows Up In Benchmarks

Yesterday, the rumor mill was talking about a HTC tablet, most likely a quad-core terminal, while today’s tech gossips speak about what it seems to be a new smartphone of the Taiwan-based company. A HTC smartphone underpinned by a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz showed up in benchmark tests and it might soon join the One line-up.

The code name of the new-comer spotted in GLBenchmark listings is codenamed PM63100. My first thoughts were that the mysterious terminal could be the 5+ inch phablet HTC is reportedly working on. GLBenchmark also unveiled the unofficial nickname of the device, “evitareul,” which might be read as Evitare UL. Looking back among other HTC product releases, we found out that HTC One XL was codenamed Evita, making us think that the two gadgets are somehow related.

It was rumored over the past month that the Taiwan-based company is readying a new device, HTC One XXL, a phablet that aims at Samsung’s Galaxy Note. Several leaks even provided a picture of the device. So is the mysterious evitareul the One XXL?

Since the device might be a 5+ inch tablet, it would also have to compete against Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the successor of the popular Samsung phablet. Rumor has it that the South Korean company scheduled an Unpacking event for August 30th, where the new device will be introduced, right in time for the debut of IFA Berlin 2012 event.

For the time being, all we know about evitareul is that is based on a quad-core 1.7 GHz Tegra 3 processor manufactured by Nvidia, that it features a 720p display and that is running on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

It looks like the smartphone will debut in US via AT&T and it might come with 4G LTE support. HTC’s future seems even more interesting now, with a quad-core slate and a phablet ready for launch.
