Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was introduced at Google I/O in San Francisco. One of the Google officials announced at the aforementioned event that the first smartphone and tablets that will receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update mid-July are Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Xoom, besides the Nexus 7 tablet that comes pre-loaded with the new firmware.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OTA update for Galaxy Nexus HSDPA + and GSM started to roll out this morning. As expected, the CDMA model of Galaxy Nexus will be the next device to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware update, followed by the Galaxy Nexus smartphones locked by the carriers.

Therefore if you are one of the lucky owners of an unlocked Galaxy Nexus we’d recommend you to check whether the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is available OTA. Samsung Galaxy Nexus is available at Amazon for $443.99 or in Google Play for $349, coming with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

Galaxy Nexus was world’s first smartphone to leave the factory gates with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board and it brings a dual-core TI OMAP CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz, a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display with 1,280 x 720 pixels, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, 5 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording support, 1,750 mAh battery, all these being only 8.9 mm thick.

The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update brings improved performance for all the devices, better typing predictions, voice recognition and voice search, enhanced notifications, a new interface for the camera app, Android Beam for file sharing, Google Now, automatically resizable widgets and a smarter Google Maps app. These are some of the new features introduced with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
