Google Lists Nexus 7 As Coming In 1-2 Weeks

Last month, at Google I/O event, the search engine giant unveiled the Nexus 7, the company’s first tablet. The 7-inch tablet was introduced along with Google’s latest version of their popular mobile operating system Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Looking at Amazon and the success the online retailer had with their Kindle Fire, Google decided that it’s time to penetrate the market with their own tablet. Therefore, they “stole” Amazon’s recipe and developed a cheap tablet with high-end specifications.

Google teamed-up with Asus and created a quad-core 7-inch tablet that costs as much as $199. Nexus 7 features a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset clocked at 1.3 GHz, 7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD with 1,280 x 800 pixels resolution, 1 GB of RAM, front-facing 1.2 MP camera with full HD video recording capabilities and 8 or 16 GB of internal storage. It also comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, NFC chip and microUSB.

The good news about the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-powered is that Google changed the shipping date in Google Play and is now listed as coming in 1 – 2 weeks, confirming that the Nexus 7 will be available in mid July.

The price for the 8 GB Nexus 7 is $199 while the 16 GB model costs as much as $249.

It looks like the battle on the 7-inch tablet segment will be very tough this year. Google launched a $199 quad-core tablet and reports say that Apple is readying a rival for Nexus 7, a 7.85-inch iPad Mini that will have a price tag of $300.

Amazon can’t just stay and look how Google and Android are taking over the 7-inch segment using a recipe invented by them, therefore world’s biggest online retailer will definitively come up with a new tablet, the Kindle Fire 2, that will take on the tablets that aim to harm its market share.
