iPhone 5 To Come With A Quad-Core Exynos 4-like Processor

It’s been a while since we heard the last rumors about the chipset that will be implemented on the new iPhone 5, but an Asian publication claims that the next iOS-powered smartphone will have a quad-core processor, similar to the Exynos 4 Quad, manufactured by Samsung.

DigiTimes, a publication famous for their accurate rumors about the unreleased Apple products, is not saying anything about the company that will manufacture the processors, but the rumor mill says it will be based on the technology used by Samsung for their Exynos 4 Quad CPUs. Until now, Apple used ARM processors compatible with the iDevices, and Samsung was the company that manufactured them.

Even though the chances for iPhone 5 to come with a quad-core CPU are pretty low,  I don’t believe that Apple will borrow the technology from other manufacturers, but it will be based on changes made by the company’s engineers.

If you asked me, I would say that iPhone 5 will not have a quad-core CPU, as a dual-core would do a great job on Apple’s iOS 6 anyway. The past Apple product launches have showed us that Apple has made a habit out of placing the iPad’s chipsets inside their new iPhone models.

After the iPhone 4 came with the sing-core A4 chip of the first iPad, the iPad 2′s dual-core A5 CPU underpinned the iPhone 4S. Therefore, the iPhone 5 might sport the dual-core LTE-friendly A5X SoC that was introduced earlier this year along with the new iPad.

Other rumors say that the iPhone 5 will come with a bigger display between 3.95 and 4.5 inches diagonally and that it will include a NFC chip for phone payments. As about the iPhone 5 release date, sources indicate that the new Apple model will be announced sometime during the fall, in September or October.
