Google Nexus 7 Is Infringing Nokia WiFi Patents

It looks like Apple isn’t the only company that is trying to pick a quarrel with its rivals, based on the technology patents. Probably learning one or two things from Microsoft, Nokia recently attacked the Google Nexus 7 tablet, saying that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device is using WiFi technologies patented by Nokia.

For two years the patent war between Samsung and Apple is making the headlines on the tech sides, and, from time to time, HTC and Motorola are sued by the Cupertino-based company.

Nokia is now attacking the creator of Android, Google. I remind you that the Nexus 7 tablet that was announced last week, is a WiFi only device that has a starting price of $199. An official of the Finland-based phone maker said in a recent interview with The Inquirer that neither Google nor ASUS have been granted the licence to use the WiFi standards patented by Nokia.

Compared to Apple, Nokia has a more reserved approach, and didn’t sued Google, but sent them a notice to warn them about the patents they infringed. Probably, in this case, the two parties involved will sign a mutual agreement, which would be a demonstration showing that you can overcome such problems without hiring lawyers or creating to much buzz. After all, Google already has a busy schedule because of the Apple’s lawsuits, and I don’t think the Mountain View-based giant would like to mess with the Microsoft – Nokia team.

Nexus 7 was introduced at Google I/O last week and with its $199 aims at the popular Amazon Kindle Fire tablet. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-powered tablet sports a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU clocked at 1.3 GHz, has 1 GB of RAM and 8 or 16 GB of internal storage. It has a 7-inch display with HD resolution, 1.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and microUSB. It has a price tag of $199 for the 8G model, while the 16 GB Nexus 7 is priced $249.
