Windows Phone 7.8 Demoed On Nokia Lumia 900

Last week Microsoft officially introduced Windows Phone 8, the new version of the company’s mobile operating system, that will not arrive on the current Windows Phone-powered smartphones. Nokia Lumia 900, the most popular WP7 smartphone, is among them, but, fortunately, this device and the rest of models underpinned by Microsoft’s mobile platform will soon receive a firmware update that will implement some of the Windows Phone 8 features. The update goes by the name of Windows Phone 7.8 and you can see it in action in the video below.

The video below is a demo/teaser centered on the new Start Screen, which now has three different Live tile sizes: small, medium and wide (as big as two medium Tiles). Ben Rudolph shows you how the “pin to Start” feature works, which was already available in WP7, but he also demos who the new resizable Live Tiles work and how you can customize your Start Screen to fit your needs.

I can’t help but notice that all those who went hands on with Windows Phone 8 or Windows Phone 7.8 have placed four small Tiles in the upper side of the screen, using them for connectivity options or as a notifications area.

Windows Phone 7.8, the new firmware version demoed by Microsoft’s Ben Rudolph in the video bellow, will reportedly arrive on the user’s phones starting July or no later than the end of summer. Nokia Lumia 900 looks really interesting with those different-sized Tiles, but this is only the begging of the new features brought by WP 7.8.

Nokia Lumia 900 is the flagship smartphone of the Windows Phone-based Lumia line-up, a highly-appreciated smartphone on and outside the US territory. When Lumia 900 debuted in US, hundreds of Americans formed huge lines in front of AT&T stores in order to get their hands on the device.

Nokia Lumia 900 features a 4.3-inch Nokia Clear Black AMOLED display, 16 GB of internal storage, 512 MB of RAM and a single-core 1.4 GHz CPU manufactured by Qualcomm and NFC chip. The North American variant also comes with support for 4G LTE connectivity.
