HTC To Develop Three Windows Phone 8 Smartphones: Zenith, Accord And Rio

Besides Nokia, HTC is one of the companies that expressed their interest in developing smartphones running on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8. The Taiwan-based company have been one of the first phone makers to develop Windows Phone 7 smartphones, but back then they had a shy product line-up.

TheVerge writes that, as soon as Windows Phone 8 makes the official debut, HTC will release three new smartphones running on Microsoft’s mobile operating system: Zenith (flagship), Accord (a mid-range WP8 device) and Rio (low-end).

HTC Rio comes with a 4-inch WVGA display, HSPA up to 14.4Mbps and a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording support. It will sport a Qualcomm MSM8227 chipset and 512 M of RAM.

The mid-range HTC Windows Phone 8 smartphone, Accord, features a slightly bigger display, 4.3-inch 720p Super LCD 2, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, 42 Mbps HSPA+, NFC support and 1 GB of RAM on a dual-core CPU, most likely Qualcomm MSM8260A.

The flagship product will be HTC Zenith, with a 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 display (the same installed on HTC One X), 8 megapixel camera, 42Mbps HSPA+ and a quad-core CPU. The One X has a quad-core Tegra 3 chipset, but since Microsoft announced their partnership with Qualcomm, we are expecting HTC Zenith to come with a brand new Qualcomm quad-core processor.

In other words we might be able to see HTC’s One line-up migrating from Android to Windows Phone 8. This is plausible thinking that the HD smarphones have switched between Windows Mobile, Android and then Windows Phone.

After Windows Phone 8 was officially introduced last week, many of the media pundits have considered Microsoft’s new mobile platform a serious competitor for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. With a strong support coming from the big phone makers like Nokia, HTC, Samsung, Huawei and ZTE the mobile operating system developed by the Redmond-based company might soon become relevant on a market dominated by the platforms developed by Apple and Google.
