iPhone 5 To Sport A 19-Pin Dock Connector

The alleged iPhone 5 case you can see in the picture bellow has a new hole for the dock connector and it seems that the final product will look just the same. For several months now, the rumor mill speculates that Apple will finally ditch the 30 pin dock connector of the iPhone, replacing it with a smaller one that has only 19 pins.

The guys at TechCrounch come to back-up the rumors saying that three different sources inside Apple confirmed that the new iPhone 5 will actually have a 19-pin, smaller, dock connector, thus we are talking about a major change for the Cupertino-based company, considering that until now, all the Apple iDevices had the same, 30-pin, USB connector.

The new USB connector is a reminiscent of the Thunderbolt ports implemented by Apple in their Macs, but the configuration of the internal parts is a lot different, thus you won’t be able to use a Thunderbolt cable to connect the iPhone 5 to a Mac.

Summing up, this 19-pin port connector will be presented as a new, and probably important, feature of the iPhone 5, but I hope that Apple also prepared other major changes.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 5 will come with a bigger screen, as the latest reports said that it will be a 4-inch Retina display. A bigger display requires more room, so the new iPhone will be longer than the last two Apple smartphones.

Apple should also make their next smartphone better than its successors, therefore it might come with a more powerful dual-core chipset. It was speculated that Samsung is working hard to provide a new chipset for the Cupertino-based company, while other say that iPhone 5 will sport new iPad’s A5X CPU. The iOS 6-powered smartphone will probably have 1 GB of RAM, NFC and 4G LTE support.

As about the iPhone 5 release date, it will arrive during the fall, with speculations giving both September and October as certain time frames.
