Sony Xperia Ion Release Date Is June 24th At AT&T, Price Starts At $99

Finally, AT&T us giving details about the Sony Xperia Ion which was unveiled six months ago. It took a while too long, but better late than never. The LTE device will be sold at a price starting at $99 in case you choose a two-year agreement (which is not very much considering that the phone is pretty great) and it will be available as of June 24th.

It’s pretty clear that the Sony Xperia Ion won’t get to compete with high-end smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the HTC One X which are far out of its reach, but the Xperia Ion has indeed some decent specs such as the 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon, a 12MP shooter, and a┬áBravia-enhanced 4.6-inch 720p HD Reality display with a 323 ppi pixel density. Also, the device features a 1.3 front camera, 1GB of RAM, 16 Gb of internal storage which can be extended with up to 32GB by adding a microSD card. As for the battery, the Sony Xperia Ion sports a standard Li-Ion 1900 mAh battery. The device is available in two colors meaning black and white.

Surprisingly, the Sony Xperia Ion will come with an older version of Android, the 2.3.7 Gingerbread. It’s funny because all other new devices come packed with the Ice Cream Sandwich and I can’t comprehend the company’s strategy, if there really is one. It seems like an update to Android 4.0 is planned, and it probably won’t take long until Sony makes the software delivery considering the┬árecent handling of Android 4.0 updates for other Xperia devices.
