Nokia Confirms PureView Cameras For The Windows 8 Apollo Lumia Smartphones

Nokia have confirmed that the camera sensors using PureView technology will be integrated in the company’s Windows Phone-powered Lumia line-up.

The PureView technology, demoed with a smartphone model based on Symbian – Nokia 808 PureView, managed to create buzz among the customers with its high-quality snapshots, taken with a camera that features a 41 megapixel sensor.

Without announcing when the first Windows Phone Lumia PureView models will see the light of day, President of Nokia US Head of Markets, North America said that the Finland-based company is working along with Microsoft to adapt the software component of the PureView technology to run on Windows Phone platform at full potential.

When asked what he thinks about the modest market share of Microsoft’s Windows Phone, Webber explained that even though many think the contrary, it’s a good start for the mobile platform, but it’s success depends on Nokia’s and Microsoft’s decision in the direction of promoting their Windows Phone products – like shipping their smartphones with more exclusive applications and adding new technologies like Pure View.

The first device with PureView camera, Nokia 808 PureView, was showcased at Mobile World Congress event in February 2012. The smartphone features a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 processor, 4.0-inch AMOLED display, 16 GB of internal storage, 512 MB of RAM and is running on Nokia Belle OS. The 41 megapixel camera comes with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Xenon flash, 1/1.2” sensor size, ND filter, up to 4x lossless digital zoom and full HD video recording support.

I am pretty sure that the first Nokia Lumia devices with PureView sensors will be introduced soon after Microsoft officially launches their new mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8 Apollo.

Anyway we should be able to return with more details about the improvements brought to the Windows Phone platform next week, when the Redmond-based company will officially introduce Windows Phone 8 Apollo.
