Sony Xperia Arc And Neo Update To Android 4.0 ICS Now Available For Download

Sony have finally managed to port the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version on some of the smartphones belonging to the Xperia line-up.

Starting today the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update have rolled out for Sony Xperia Arc and Sony Xperia Neo, two of the Japanese’s smartphones that were sold well and have stood up from the Xperia line-up.

Both Sony Xperia Arc and Sony Xperia Neo will receive Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and 2.6.32 kernel. The update will be rolled out for certain markets first, but it will soon become global and all the Arc and Neo owners will be able to enjoy the ICS experience.

But there are a few more smartphones of the Xperia line-up that are in line to receive the Android ICS firmware update: Sony Xperia Mini and Mini Pro, Sony Xperia Pro, Sony Xperia Active and Sony Live with Walkman. The are also waiting for the Android 4.0.4 update to come over the next few weeks.

The only one outside the Android 4.0 ICS area is the poor Sony Xperia Play, which will be stuck on Gingerbread forever.

Returning to our Ice Cream Sandwich heroes, Sony Xperia Arc and Sony Xperia Neo, let’s have a look at their technical specifications. Sony Xperia Neo was released in March 2011 and comes with a single-core 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon chipset, 512 MB of RAM and 320 MB of internal storage, completed by a microSD card.

Xperia Neo also has a 3.7-LED backlit LCD display with a pixel density of 233 ppi and an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, face and smile detection and support for 720p video recording.

On the other hand Sony Xperia Arc sports a 4.2-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 854, single-core 1 GHz Scorpion CPU helped by a Adreno 205, 512 MB of RAM, 320 MB of internal flash expandable via  microSD card (up to 32 GB) and an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and HD video recording capabilities.

In terms of connectivity Sony Xperia Arc features HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, microUSB v2.0, HDMI out and 3.5 mm jack.
