Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update For Sony Xperia S To Roll Out In June

Sony Xperia S, a smartphone introduced in January at CES 2012, will soon receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update. We already knew that the Japanese company is preparing to upgrade the Xperia S, which leaves the factory gates pre-loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but now we have an official release date for the Android 4.0 ICS update: next month, in June.

Sony Xperia S, the flagship of the Japan-based company, was highly criticized because it was released with the old Android 2.3 Gingerbread on-board. It’s true, Sony have implemented some features that remind us of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but not enough to offer a complete ICS experience. Sony Xperia S comes with a 4.3-inch LED-backlit LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset and a 12 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and support for full HD 1080p video recording mounted on the back of the phone.

Since the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was officially unveiled in October 2012, most of the Android enthusiasts want the firmware flashed on their devices. Buying a high-end Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone now, when most of the devices come pre-loaded with ICS, doesn’t seem to be a great idea, but, hopefully, Sony will roll out the Android 4.0 update for Sony Xperia S only three months after the device hit the market.

Returning to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sony Xperia S, it looks like some of the lucky owners of Sony’s flagship might receive the update in late May.

I am curious whether the Android 4.0 ICS update will come with major improvements, especially for the camera app, which in my opinion has two major flows: the focus lag is huge while recording and the 12 megapixel photos load slowly in gallery. If you are one of the lucky guys who received the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sony Xperia S, please let us know how the new firmware improved the experience on your device in the comments section below.
