iPhone 5: The Most Important Launch In The History Of Smartphones, Says Analyst

We don’t have any official information about the iPhone 5, but an analyst working for Goldman Sachs says that we might witness the most important launch in the history of smartphones. These are big words, but they are based on the hype produced by the introduction of iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S.

Bill Shope based his theory on the unofficial information saying that the iPhone 5 will come with a whole new design. The rumor mill speculates that the new iPhone will come with a 4-inch Retina display and that the device’s antenna will be redesigned to fix the antenna gate bug that made the headlines after iPhone 4 was released.

I strongly believe that the launch of the new iPhone 5 will be the real test for the team led at the highest level by Tim Cook. Both the iPhone 4S and the new iPad came as an minor upgrade of their predecessors and the media tagged them as disappointing. Even so, the sales proved the contrary. On the other hand it will be interesting to see what Apple will do with the iOS interface, as it starts to look a bit rusty in front of Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

I can’t say that Goldman Sachs analyst is right, but I can’t argue with his opinion either. But Apple has its ways to make a product a sales success even though it’s not the best device out there. Just look at iPhone 4S sales as it still manages to do well against other smartphones that come with better specifications.

Even thought it was rumored that iPhone 5 will be introduced in June, Apple fans’ waiting might last until October. According to Piper Jaffray research firm, the reason why the iPhone 5 launch was delayed is caused by Qualcomm’s problems in fulfilling the high demand for their chipsets.

To be more precises, it’s the modem chipset developed on 28 nm technology, a chipset used for LTE Internet data connections. The market demand for this particular chipset is very high, and Qualcomm is currently unable to satisfy this demand. According to Bill Keitel, Qualcomm CFO, said that Qualcomm will have to spend more money in order to be able to meet the demand.
