Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 And Galaxy Tab 7.0 Release Dates Are May 13th And April 22nd

The new series of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablets is a little bit better and a little bit cheaper than the line-up it replaces, to be able to fight against the competitors of Apple, after the Cupertino-based company cut off the iPad 2 price to $399, starting a price cut avalanche in the rival camps.

Will Apple still has a strategy based on a limited line-up, aggressive marketing and huge sale volumes, Samsung approaches the market in a different way: the South Korea-based company has a line-up of Android tablets that covers almost every size, price range or specs segment.

With so many tablets already on the market, many of them being very popular, Samsung chose to present their new Galaxy Tab 2 series like an upgraded edition of the Galaxy Tab models.

Thus, the technical specifications list of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 sounds pretty familiar: a PLS TFT display with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, 16 GB of internal flash storage and microSD card slot, 3 megapixel camera mounted on the back of the case, and the same dual-core 1 GHz chipset from Texas Instruments.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 models come with improved design and they leave the factory gate with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, promised by Samsung for the older versions of the tablet, as well, but delayed for more or less justified reasons.

The improvements also include a set of front-facing stereo speakers and an infrared port, you can use with the Smart Remote application to control all the devices linked to a Home Theater configuration (even though they aren’t manufactured by Samsung).

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 also comes with a free 1 year subscription to Dropbox, that comes with 50 GB of storage in the cloud, where you can upload your pictures, music, movies or any other file.

The 10.1-inch model has a price of $400 making it a high-end product and a direct rival for iPad 2. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was developed for the mid-range segment and comes at a reasonable price of $250.

The configuration of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 includes the same dual-core 1 GHz TI OMAP 4430 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage and microSD slot of up to 32 GB, Wi-Fi N and Bluetooth connectivity. Unfortunately the smaller display comes with smaller resolution – 1,023 x 600 pixels, a bit lower for the nowadays standards but acceptable considering the price.

On the back of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 you will find the same 3 megapixel camera, while the front-facing VGA camera is meant for video calls.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will hit the US market on April 22nd, while its bigger sister, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will arrive one month later, on May 13th.
