Asus Padfone Price Is $610, Already Available For Pre-order In Taiwan

Asus is getting ready to launch the Padfone in Taiwan, in mid-April 2012. The pricing of the Asus Padfone combo was set at $850 and it can climb to $980 with docking station included. The Asus Padfone stands out with its versatility; it can be easily and ingeniously transformed from a smartphone into a tablet or netbook.

The device, showcased for the first time at Computex 2011 event, includes a 4.3-inch smartphone which can be inserted into a 10.1-inch tablet. This way, the user can easily transform his smartphone into a tablet without having to interrupt his work. Asus Padfone is running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

It is somewhat normal for Asus to make the Padfone available in their home country first. The 3-in-1 device can be pre-ordered starting today. The customers can choose the configuration of the Asus Padfone: they can choose the smartphone only, the smartphone plus the tablet, or the smartphone-tablet combo, plus the docking station. Unfortunately, we don’t know yet whether the tablet can be purchased afterwards by those who only opted for the smartphone. The docking station, which can transform Asus Padfone into a Android-powered netbook can be purchased separately.

For those not aware of Asus Padfone technical specifications, the device is based on a 4.3-inch smartphone, running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich helped by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz. When you want to increase the screen resolution from 540 x 960 to 1,280 x 800 pixels, you can insert the smartphone into a 10.1-inch tablet. The tablet only features a display and an additional battery that charges the smartphone and powers the display, while the combo formed by the two gadgets is powered by the smartphone’s hardware. The third component of the Asus Padfone is the docking station, with a full QWERTY keyboard, a reminiscent of the one created for Asus Transformer Prime.

The pricing for Asus Padfone in Taiwan are $610 for the smartphone and $850 for the smartphone – tablet combo. Those who want to purchase the keyboard will have to pay an extra $100. Asus Padfone will be made available in United States and Europe, but the release date was not unveiled yet.
