HTC Evo 4G LTE Price Is $199, Will Become Available For Pre-order On May 7th

When HTC Evo 4G first appeared on the market it was a real breakthrough for the company, but the biggest benefit came for Sprint, the carrier that launched it. HTC Evo 4G, a WiMAX-enabled Android smartphone, was a best seller in its time and it has been until a few months ago. The customers like it even if it came with a kickstand which, for me, is kinda of a weird item for a phone. Actually, the Evo 4G sold better even than Evo 3D which is a more recently appeared phone and has a glasses-free display.

Excited about the smartphone’s success, Sprint is using the name Evo for their newest product as well meaning the Evo 4G LTE, probably thinking that the story will repeat itself.

The new phone which will be launched soon doesn’t have totally different specs than HTC One X. It comes with the same processor, a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 with 16GB ROM and 1GB RAM (it doesn’t integrates the Tegra 3 because this one does not have support for LTE yet); regarding the cameras, it ships with a 8-megapixel rear one with f/2.0 lens and in the front it has a 1.3-megapixel shooter’ the display is a 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 with 1280 x 720 resolution (it features really great viewing angles); as for the operating system, it boosts an Android 4.0 with Sense 4; also it incorporates Beats audio.

Bu the similarities stop there as Sprint’s new HTC Evo 4G LTE has a changed design, the chassis being with aluminum with anodized black finish. The phone is glossy on the upper third, matte on the lower back and it’s separated from the screen by a shiny border. And of course HTC added its weird touch – a kickstand which is very thin and bright red colored. For those of you who are fond of the kickstand, I must say that it’s really well done being steady enough to sustain the phone in both portrait and landscape orientation. I think the device is the third instance after the HTC HD7 and, of course, the original Evo 4G.

Among other extras it is worth mentioning its microSD slot that can receive up to 32GM extra storage. The battery still can’t be removed from its place, but considering that it has a 8.9mm frame I think that it’s a fair tradeoff. Also, it features a very handy camera button which will enable you to easily make use of it. Sprint has a thing for NFC devices with Google Wallet support and HTC Evo 4G LTE is one of the many upcoming ¬†phones with this feature. Also, the phone is the first device capable of HD voice of Sprint, and the carrier has a ballsy idea, it plans to develop an HD voice network all over the country later this year.

The exact official release date of HTC Evo 4G LTE is unknown, but it’s sometime in Q2. However, the carrier specified the pre-orders date which is May 7th and if we take their operating mode, it’s possible that the street date will be only a few weeks after that. The cost of the Evo 4G LTE is going to be $199.99 and the good news is that you still have unlimited data on 4G (of course, in case you are lucky enough to live in one of the areas where Sprint has coverage for 4G.
