Value Pack Update For Samsung Galaxy S Now Available For Download In Korea

Remember the Value Pack story, that software package meant to arrive on the Samsung Galaxy S terminals, as a consolation for the users that won’t see the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update? Well, the already-famous Value Pack recently arrived on Galaxy S and the Koreans are the first to enjoy it.

The purpose of the Value Pack software upgrade is to offer some of the goodies of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, optimized for the modest specifications of the old handset. A while ago, an unofficial Value Pack have hit the web, but what we see in Asia is an official release, published by Samsung itself. Among the new features brought by Value Pack upgrade for Samsung Galaxy S are face unlock, taking snapshots while recording a video, plus some other minor features, obviously borrowed from Android 4.0 ICS. I hope that the multitasking system which closes the apps by swiping to the right was included, too.

The launcher was improved, as well, and it seems that the users will have to download and install Kies 2.0 in order to be able to upgrade their Samsung Galaxy S terminals. You should know that the Value Pack upgrade is pretty big, too and we’d recommend you to backup the data on your device before applying it, of course if you find a source for this software release and risk flashing it. The rest of the world will receive it, too, but the question is when?

We remind you that Samsung Galaxy S is the first flagship of the Galaxy line-up and was introduced in March 2012. It features a 4.0-inch Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass coating, single-core 1 GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8 CPU, 512 MB of RAM and 8/16 GB of internal flash storage. The 5 megapixel camera mounted on the back of the case is capable of recording videos at 720p.

Samsung Galaxy S leaves the factory gates with Android 2.1 Eclair on board, but it is upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Value Pack update for Samsung Galaxy S comes as an add-on for the already launched Android 2.3 firmware and it only brings some of the ICS features, thus you can’t say it’s the real Android 4.0, but it’s better than nothing.
