Microsoft Expands Windows Phone 7 Marketplace Availability To 13 More Countries

Microsoft have announced that their Windows Phone Marketplace platform will be available in 13 more countries, just like they promised a month ago at Mobile World Congress 2012. The 13 countries are: Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Croatia, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine and Venezuela.

Next to Argentina, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru and Philippines, countries that received support for Windows Phone Marketplace earlier this year, the Windows Phone application store is now officially available in not less than 54 countries.

The next wave of countries that will receive Windows Phone Marketplace support includes United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Israel, Thailand and Vietnam, but the Microsoft officials have not unveiled the release date yet.

It looks like Microsoft has big plans in 2012, regarding their mobile operating system, Windows Phone. Rumor has it that once the Apollo update will officially hit the smartphones out there, Microsoft’s smartphone market share will increase significantly, but nobody can confirm this yet, thus we’ll have to wait a few more months and see what happens.

The Windows Phone 7 platform have been officially released one and a half years ago, but until today none of the above mentioned 13 countries didn’t have complete access to Windows Phone Marketplace. The developers in the countries where the WP application store is not officially available can’t sell nor buy applications, as only the free apps were available. Starting today, the Windows Phone-powered owners in the 13 aforementioned countries can use their card to buy applications from Marketplace.

If you used the classic trick and set your location to US or UK you would no longer be able to migrate the account on your real homecountry. I am talking about the Live ID account you are using to sign in, thus you will bee needing a new account with your real address. Once you create a new account you will be able to ad a credit card and you will be free to buy and install one of the 70,000 apps available in Marketplace.
