Apple Reports 3 Million New iPad Units Were Shipped So Far

A couple of days ago, at a press conference in San Francisco, Tim Cook said that Apple sold a record number of new iPad units, but he went silent on the numbers. Now, the company’s PR department released a press statement announcing that 3 million iPad units were shipped out since the tablet hit the market.

The new iPad 3 tablet was officially made available for purchase in 10 countries on March 16th and 3 million units were sold by the American companies until today. We are talking about the highest number of tablets sold over a weekend, with figures that are getting close to iPhone 4S shipments over the same time frame. Compared to the launching of iPad 2, Apple sold three times more tablets this year.

On the other hand, in a comparison with iPad 1, 1 million units of the first iOS tablet were sold in the first 28 days after the launch and the 3 million threshold was reached only 80 days after the official launch. Although the demand for iPad seems amazing, we should consider that the iPad 1 was initially launched in USA, then two months later it was made available for buy in several European and Asian countries.

But what happens when you compare the new iPad sales with the iPhone 4S shipments over the same time frame? Well, Apple shipped 4 million iPhone 4S terminals over the weekend prior to the launch, but the device was made available in seven countries of the world, while the new iPad have hit ten markets.

The fifth generation Apple iOS smartphone was made available in other countries two weeks later and others more a month later. The new iPad tablet will be launched in 25 more countries this Friday, thus new Apple device will be available on a total of 35 markets by the end of the week.

Apple was able to reach a record number of shipments because the company’s partners were able to manufacturers enough units to allow the Cupertino-based company to make the device available on more markets.

Although may have thought that the new iPad will be a sales disappointment and the Apple fans haven’t formed huge lines in front of the Apple stores, all these were compensated by the huge number of online pre-orders and we might witness a record number of iPad tablets shipped out in a single fiscal quarter.

Those not aware of the technical specifications of the new iPad should know that the tablet features a 9.7-inch Retina Display with an amazing resolution, dual-core 1 GHz A5X chipset, 1 GB of RAM, 16/32/64 GB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera with full HD video recording capabilities and 4G LTE support.
