BlackBerry PlayBook Mini Keyboard Release Date Is March 23rd?

BlackBerry Playbook’s first birthday is next month and even though its hardware specifications are decent even for new-generation tablet, the RIM tablet haven’t became as popular as the officials of the Canada-based company expected. The operating system’s user interface isn’t bad, but the lack of applications in the dedicated store played an important role in customer’s decision when it came to buying the RIM slate.

The flagship model of the RIM’s tablet line-up, BlackBerry 4G PlayBook LTE features a 7.0-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors and a resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels, 1GB of RAM and 16/32/64GB of internal flash storage (microSD card slot not included). RIM placed a dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 TI OMAP 4430 CPU inside their BlackBerry 4G Playbook LTE tablet, helped by an PowerVR SGX540 GPU.

BlackBerry Playbook comes packed with RIM’s proprietary BlackBerry Tablet OS based on a swipe user interface. In terms of connection, RIM’s flagship tablet comes with WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB 2.0, micro HDMI out, 3.5mm jack and 4G LTE chip. BlackBerry 4G Playbook LTE features a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and support for full HD 1080p video recording and 3 megapixel user-facing camera.

Rumor has it that the Canada-based smartphone and tablet maker is planning to introduce a Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard for their 7-inch tablet. Unofficially dubbed BlackBerry PlayBook Mini Keyboard, it might hit the market on March 23rd at a price of $120.

The BlackBerry PlayBook Mini Keyboard also comes with a multi-touch touchpad. An online store in North America have started the pre-orders session ahead of the official announcement. It would be interesting to see whether RIM will develop a new generation of the PlayBook slate, now that their tablet operating system have been reached version 2.0.
