HTC Sensation And Sensation XE Now Upgradeable To Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

The big day has arrived: the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update is available for HTC Sensation XE. Sensation XE is the first smartphone launched after HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre have teamed up and is a device that received lots of positive reviews. You can grab the update file from here, but be aware that this version is only available for certain regions, thus we’d recommend you to wait a little bit more.

HTC was the first smartphone manufacturer to promise the Ice Cream Sandwich Update after Google’s new major software update was announced in October 2011 at Unwrapping Ice Cream Sandwich event in Hong Kong. It looks like the Taiwan-based company is acting as promised, because the first Android 4.0 ICS begun to hit their smartphones.

It seems that starting yesterday the Android 4.0 ICS update for HTC Sensation XE hit the Scandinavian countries and Germany. It was reported that the HTC Sense 4.0 user interface isn’t included in this release, which is a sad news. Still the interface will be upgraded to HTC Sense 3.6, which is basically a “lite” version of the Sense 4.0, the same installed on the new HTC One V smartphone introduced at Mobile World Congress 2012 event in Barcelona. My guess is that by the end of the week all the HTC Sensation XE users will be able to upgrade their smartphone to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

HTC Sensation and Sensation XE are the first models that receive Android 4.0.3 along with HTC’s proprietary Sense 3.6 user interface. Even though we would have liked the Sense 4.0 UI more, an user interface presented along with the terminals of the One line-up, HTC will make us wait a little more.

The users who want to upgrade their smartphones to Android 4.0 ICS should know that the install package has a size of 297MB, thus we’d recommend you to use an WiFi connection for the OTA update. Fortunately, the download link above will help you get over additional mobile data transfers. We are waiting for feedback from the lucky owners that received the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OTA update for HTC Sensation XE in the comments section below.

For the time being the Android 4.0 ICS update for HTC Sensation and Sensation XE haven’t been officially announced and its available exclusively for the Nordic countries. The US and European firmware updates are expected to arrive soon. The Android ICS update package has 297MB and is available OTA.
