New iPad 3 Release Date And Price Are March 16th For $499

A few hours ago Apple presented their new iOS tablet, which, to the stupefaction of everyone present at the conference in San Francisco, will not be called iPad 3 or iPad HD, but simple: iPad.

At today’s conference Apple announced that the new iPad tablet features a A5X dual-core SoC and a quad-core graphic processing unit capable of underpinning the new Retina display that comes with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536. The clock rate of the new processor wasn’t revealed, but it’s certain that it was developed on the platform of the old A5 chipset placed inside the current iDevices. We all wanted a quad-core inside the iPad 3 new iPad, but Apple only provided a dual-core CPU, but with a way better GPU.

The new iPad sports a 9.7 -inch Retina Display with a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels and 264 pixels per inch. The display of the new Apple tablet has 3.1 million pixels and it comes with 44% more color saturation, which translates into “richer, deeper and more vivid” colors.

Apple’s new iPad tablet works both on 3G and 4G LTE networks, the latter ones capable of reaching download speeds of up to 72Mbps. The Cupertino-based giant placed a based chip inside their tablet capable of running anywhere in the world on EVDO (3.1 Mbps), HSPA (7.1Mbps), HSPA+ (21Mbps), DC-HSPA (42Mbps) and 4G LTE (72Mbps) networks, of course where available.

The new iPad 3… why I keep calling it like this? Excuse me. iPad comes packed with a rear-facing iSight 5 megapixel camera, the same as the one installed on iPhone 4. The camera comes with, video stabilization, autofocus, face detection and 1080p full HD video recording support, and the videos can be played on a TV using the new Apple TV 3G. Unfortunately The new iOS tablet also comes with a user-facing VGA camera.

Apple included a speech-to-text software in their new iPad, already available on the iPhone 4S along with Siri. The new tablet won’t come with Siri, but it has a virtual button on the on-screen keyboard that once pressed will transform your words into text.

The new Apple iOS tablet is 9.4mm thick, thus the rumors saying that it would be thicker than its previous generation were confirmed today. Unfortunately the new tablet is also a 19 grams heavier than the iPad 2, but the difference is insignificant and few will even notice it. The good news is that the third-generation iPad can stay awake for 10 hours on a single charge and offers up to 9 hours of battery life on 4G, a record for a tablet of its kind.

Phill Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, announced today that the new iPad tablet will be available starting March 16th in 10 countries of the globe: US, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Puerto Rico and the pre-order sessions have already started.

The iPad has a price tag of $499, while the old iPad 2 is on sale at $399 as of today. Beginning March 23rd, the new Apple tablet will be made available on even more countries of the planet.
