Android 6.0 Could Be Nicknamed Key Lime Pie

Yesterday, we’ve talked about the Asus official that somehow confirmed that Jelly Bean is the codename Google will use for Android 5.0. In an interview for a tech website, Benson Lin, Corporate Vice President of Asus said that the company he works for could be “in the first wave to offer the Jelly Bean update.”

Even though there’s no certitude that the next operating system from Google will be called Jelly Bean, as it’s best to call it simply “Android 5.0,” some rumors regarding the name of the next Android mobile OS version have hot the web. A trustful source, the same that ignited the rumors about the Android 5.0 Jelly Bean code name a year ago, told The Verge, that the Android 6.0 will be code named Key Lime Pie.

It seems that Google doesn’t want to break the sweets chain, as they continue what have already become a tradition and nickname their Android releases getting the inspiration from tasty desserts. After Eclair, Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich it seems that the next goody from Google will be a Jelly Bean, according to an Asus official, who accidentally mentioned the name in an interview for Tech Radar. The Jelly Bean would be followed by Key Lime Pie, which would probably become more famous under the KLP acronym. We should also mention that there was a big bowl of jellies at Google’s booth at Mobile World Congress 2012 event in Barcelona, which might be a hint indicating that Android 5.0′s name will have something in common with jellies.

Since Google have scheduled the I/O event for June, I personally expect to see the new Android 5.0 there, then it might hit the first devices sometime in the fall. On the other hand, Google is expected to introduce the Key Lime Pie in early 2013. Maybe the Nexus tablet, will not be running on Android 4.0 ICS, as previously rumored, and Google would offer it pre-loaded with Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. If so, I am pretty certain that the next release after Jelly Bean would bring a new Nexus smartphone, maybe one manufactured by Motorola.
