Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich For Samsung Galaxy S II Coming On March 15th

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile operating system was introduced in October 2011, at a Samsung + Google “Unwrapping Ice Cream Sandwich” event in Hong Kong. All the Android enthusiasts had wet dreams about the new Google mobile operating system since, but now the fantasy might come true for the Samsung Galaxy S II owners.

Soon after Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was officially unveiled, most of the big Android-powered smartphone and tablet manufacturers have expressed their wish to bring the new OS on their devices.

Thus, LG confirmed they will be bringing Android 4.0 ICS update on their Optimus smartphone line-up, HTC also revealed the list of devices that will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich firmware and Samsung said that the Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab line-up will be upgraded to Android 4.0 as soon as possible.

Samsung Galaxy S II is the flagship of the Android-powered Samsung smartphone line-up, as it features 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display (16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels) with Gorilla Glass protection, dual-core 1.2GHz Exynos Cortex A9 chipset, helped by Mali-400MP GPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB / 32GB of internal flash storage, microSD card slot, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with dual LED flash, autofocus and full HD video recording capabilities. Samsung Galaxy S II leaves the factory gates pre-loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

It seems that the Samsung Galaxy S II owners will be able to install the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update on their device starting March 15th. Well, at least that’s what the official Facebook page of Samsung Mobile Israel says.

Even though the news only speaks about “tens of thousands of the Galaxy S2 owners that purchased it from the cellular company in Israel or directly from us [Samsung]“ we hopw this will mark the debut of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich world-wide roll out.

Meanwhile the post on the Samsung Mobile IL official Facebook page was removed, the only evidence about the Android 4.0 ICS update for Samsung Galaxy S II is a screenshot of the respective Facebook post.

Anyway, we are pretty sure that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update is pretty close, as most of the Samsung Galaxy S II would be able to upgrade their devices to the latest Google mobile operating system by the end of March. Anyway, if you own a Samsung Galaxy S II we would appreciate if you let us know whether you were able to update your device as of March 15th or not.
