How To Fix Dual-Core And Quad-Core CPU Issues

The CPU or the dual-core and the quad-core central processing units are made by multiple cores or independent processors. It has the purpose to read and perform tasks. As you might imagine, in the case of dual-core CPU’s, it contains two cores. In case of quad-core CPU’s it contains four cores. If comparing the multi-core CPUs and the single-core CPU you will notice that the first ones are more powerful and efficient.

But, they still have the same problems as the single-core processors. If you have computer problems like the overheating your computer, suddenly shut downs or the boot screen will fail to load know that this hardware component could be the reason. In order to troubleshoot a quad-core or dual-core CPU reinstall the processor. Also, check the heat sink and reset the basic input/output system.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Restart the computer and access the setup program. To access it, search for a message that details instructions on the boot screen. Access the BIOS by pressing the key indicated in the message above.

  2. Search for the “Load Fail-Safe Defaults” option by checking on the menu or the legend. Press the associated key or select the option and then, press “Enter”.

  3. In order to restore setup to its default state, start by pressing “F10”, and continue by selecting “Y” and then pressing “Enter”. Then, restart the computer.

  4. After you have reset the hardware configuration, test the computer to see if the malfunction persists. If it remains unstable, shut down the PC by holding down the power button for a few seconds.

  5. Continue by searching on the back of the computer and unplugging the power connector and also, any other cables connected to the PC. Then set the computer on its side after removing its cover panel.

  6. Make sure that the square 4-pin power connector is plugged into the slot. It is on the motherboard right-next to the quad-core or the dual-core CPU. Once you have checked, confirm that it is plugged into the motherboard.

  7. The CPU fan and heat sink have some brackets or screws that secure them to the computer. Loose and remove them. Then, start moving back and forth the heat sink and at the same time lift it up from the quad-core or dual-core CPU.

  8. To detect any thermal paste, check the top of the processor and the bottom of the heat sink. If you will not detect any thermal paste to neither one, apply a little to the top of the processor. Use a card to spread it on the processor’s surface.

  9. Then, reset the processor and unlock the zero insertion force, known also as the ZIF, by raising the bar. It is securing the CPU to the motherboard.

  10. Align the mark of the edge of the processor with the mark of the CPU slot by lifting up the processor by its edges. Place the processor on the CPU’s slot with its pins facing down and lock it in place.

  11. Secure all components in place after placing back the processor fan and the heat sink on the top of the quad-core or dual-core.

  12. Then, plug-in all the cables: the power cable, the video cable, the mouse and the keyboard. In order to test if the problem was fixed, turn on the PC and start using it. In case it still doesn’t work, start considering to replace the CPU. In case that the computer powers off suddenly, the solution seems to be the upgrade of the heat sink and of the CPU fan.
