How To Connect An Xbox 360 To Wireless Internet Without An Adapter

The easiest way to connect your XBOX 360 to wireless internet is simple and cheap! There are 2 easy to use instruction guides, both of which must be used on computers with a wireless network card of some sort installed.

Before Beginning: Create a restore point, click START >> ALL PROGRAMS >> ACCESSORIES >> SYSTEM TOOLS >> SYSTEM RESTORE and follow the easy steps. I’m not asking you to do a restore point because this guide is unsafe, it’s in case you break something up by accident. You can restore you PC/Laptop if anything happens at any time.

Guide 1, for beginners:

  • Make sure your desktop computer/laptop has a wireless network card installed. You must also have a wireless router/access point to receive the signal for your wireless card on your PC or Laptop (it can be a wireless ADSL Router etc).

  • Once you have installed/setup your wireless network and have your computer (desktop/laptop) connected to the internet, place it near your XBOX 360. Easier to do with a laptop, unless you purchased the VGA cable to connect your to your computer monitor).

  • Purchase or obtain a RJ45 Ethernet Cable / Network Cable.

  • Plug one end of the Ethernet Cable into your computer (Fig 1), and the other end into your XBOX 360.

The next steps differ depending on what operating system do you have: For Windows XP users:

  • Make sure you are logged in as the computer administrator.

  • Go to the “Control Panel” (Click start, then “Control Panel”)

  • Click on “Network and Internet Connections.

  • Now Click “Network Connections”.

  • Right click your “Wireless connection”. (Whichever one it may be) then go to Properties.

  • Click on the “advanced” tab and check the box labelled, “Allow other network users to connect to through this computer’s internet connection”.

  • The above steps/pictures may look different on your computer, just depends on how you have set it up your Windows XP (the advanced users will know what I’m talking about).

For MAC users:

  • Click on the “system preferences” icon in the dock.

  • Select the “Sharing” preference pane.

  • Click on the “Internet” tab.

  • Start internet Sharing.

  • Turn on your XBOX 360 and CONNECT to Xbox LIVE.

If you have followed the previous directions, but you’re a windows XP user and do not have the option of “Allow other network users to connect to through this computer’s internet connection” on your wireless network, then follow the advanced steps below:

  • Plug one end of the Ethernet Cable into your computer, and the other end into Your XBOX 360.

  • Make sure you are logged in as the computer administrator.

  • Go to the “Control Panel” (Click start, then “Control Pane!”).

  • Click on “Network and Internet Connections.

  • Now Click “Network Connections”.

  • Left click on the mouse button to select your wireless network icon (whatever the name of your wireless network is). Hold down the left control button (CTRL on your keyboard) and keep it held down while you left click on the mouse button over the Local Area Connection icon. In this step all you’re doing is highlighting your wireless connection and your local are connection.

If you get the XP Message – “The Software you are installing for this hardware: Mac “Bridge Miniport has not passed windows logo testing to verify it’s compatible with windows up”, do not continue, seek for more up to date drivers, or you can continue but make sure that you set a restore point in case something  goes wrong.

  • Now right click the mouse button over one of the highlighted icon connections and choose the option ”Bridge Connections”. Wait about 5 seconds for things to shuffle around and a new Network bridge icon will appear.

  • Now, make sure your PC/Laptop can still browse the internet Ok. If it can’t browse the internet, reboot the PC/Laptop and see if it’s Ok before proceeding. If it still does not work after a reboot, get the very latest drivers for your wireless card. These instructions do work, but getting it working on your own setup very much depends on your make/model of your wireless adapter. Many adapters do not support “Promiscuous Mode” which is needed to make the bridge work.

  • Reboot your PC/Laptop, (sometimes you may not have to reboot).

  • Turn on your XBOX 360 and connect to XBOX LIVE!
