How To Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 2 On iPhone 4 / 3GS, iPod Touch 3G / 3G And iPad With Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 (Windows And Mac Tutorial)

iPhone Dev Team’s Muscle Nerd confirmed today on Twitter that iOS 5 beta 2 can be jaibroken using Redsn0w 0.9.8 beta 1, Dev Team launch last week. The jailbreak procedure is identical to the one for iOS 5 beta 1 and when I say “identical” a refer that you will have to use ISPW for beta 1 with Redsn0w.

Just as we expected iOS 5 beta 2 is still vulnerable as the limera1n exploit affects the devices’ bootrom and will allow a tethered jailbreak no matter what iOS versions will be launched for the terminals currently on market.

In order to jailbreak iOS 5 beat whether you installed it on your iPhone 3GS, 4, iPad, or iPod Touch 3rd and 4th gen you will have to closely follow the below tutorial. Anyway, we recommend you not to use Sn0wnreeze, as the software needs to be updated in order to work with iOS 5 beta 2.

If you need an unlock DON’T update to iOS 5 beta 2 as Gevey and Ultras0w DON’T work with this iOS 5 beta version.

Although Apple launched a new version of iOS5, beta 2, the jailbreak procedure remained the same as of beta 1 version. If the jailbreak procedure is somewhat safe, the unlock brings some problems, as Apple blocked the Gevey SIM interposer hole in iOS 5 beta 2. The method used by the guys at Gevey was “borrowed” from other SIM manufacturers, so no unlock SIM using the 911 service to unlock your iPhone 5 will work in the final version of iOS 5.

Not even Ultrasn0w is compatible with iOS 5 beta 2, so don’t even think you may unlock your device using it. If you need an unlock stay on the iOS version currently running on your iPhone 4, and you will stay out of trouble.

Redsn0w 0.9.0 beta 1 is able to jailbreak your iDevice using the bootrom exploit in limera1n and is compatible with:

  • iPhone 3GS;

  • iPhone 4;

  • iPad;

  • iPod Touch 3rd Gen;

  • iPod Touch 4th Gen;

Anyway before proceeding to jailbreak your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch, please make sure that you have iOS 5 beta 2 installed on your iDevice. If not you can buy an Apple developer account, which has a price of $99 per year or you can ask a developer to submit your device’s UDID in his account and download iOS 5 beta 2 and iTunes 10.5 beta 2 for you. We are pretty sorry but we can’t point towards a specific Apple developer that can do this for you.

Now, let’s see what you will have to do in order to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 2 using Redsn0w 0.9.8:

  1. First of all you will have to donwload Redsn0w 0.9.8. You can grab it from here, if you are a Windows user, or from here, if your computer is running on Mac OS X.

  2. Connect your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch to your PC, open Redsn0w beta 1 (if on Windows, we recommend you to user Redsn0w in Windows XP compatibility mode), press the “Browse” button, select the iOS5 beta 1 IPSW, then press “Next.” Redsn0w will implement the exploit and proceed to the next step.

  3. Now check the “Install Cydia” box and press the “Next” button.

  4. You will have to introduce your iPhone in DFU Mode. First, turn off your device then press “Next” and Redsn0w will show you how to introduce it in DFU Mode. To introduce your device in DFU Mode you will have to press and hold the “Power” button for 3 seconds, then without releasing the “Power” button press “Home” for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds have passed, release the “Power” button and your iPhone should be in DFU Mode, and Redsn0w beta 1 will start implementing the exploit.

  5. If everything worked just fine and the device is jailbroken, then Redsn0w should display the “Finish” button.

  6. If everything goes as planned, you should have your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch jailbroken, but unfortunately the “fun” doesn’t end here. You used Redsn0w to jailbreak your device, but the applications won’t run, as you have performed a tethered jailbreak. Now follow the below steps to boot in tethered mode and then you will be able to use Cydia, Safari and other apps.

  7. Put your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch in DFU Mode again (follow the instructions from step 4)

  8. Open Redsn0w, select the iOS 5 beta 2 IPSW again, press “Next” and choose the “Just boot tethered now” option.

  9. After your iDevice powers again you should have access to all apps without any restrictions. You will need to repeat this step every time your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch reboots, or else it won’t power at all.

Now you can enjoy a the jailbreak version of iOS 5 beta 2 on your iDevice. Anyway, this iOS 5 beta 2 jailbreak method is temporary, so if you don’t want to bother doing a tethered jailbreak you can wait a little longer.
