How To Root Your Acer Iconica A500 Android Tablet

As you recall, we have warned you about this and it seems that more and more users are reporting that they are experiencing the following problem. Upon updating their devices to Honeycomb ( 1.141.07 version ) many client complained that their smartphones are not rooted anymore.

We will show you how you can root the Ace Iconica A500 Honeycomb tablet. Keep in mind that others have tried to root this tablet by using Z4 root and other rooting methods but din’t manage to finish the process because Honeycomb is now blocking old rooting tools.

This guide is not recommended for newbies, and also keep in mind that you will also loose your warranty. A very important thing is to try and follow the exact steps as we tell you, otherwise you risk to brick the device very easily and irrevocably.

This new rooting process is based on a tool called Gingerbreak and works by changing the system file entries and gains root access of your Android tablet. The tutorial presented by us works on Froyo, Honeycomb and Gingerbread without any kind of problems. The rooting tool will copy the APK file and place it so you can insert some commands so the exploit can successfully gain root access.

Prerequisites:

  • We strongly recommend to save all your current data, such as SMS, music, photos, and other data stored on your Acer Iconia A500 tablet. You can easily restore them after the process is complete so do not be alarmed because you won’t lose it.

  • Be very careful and ensure that your device has at least 50% battery remaining because the actual rooting process drains a lot of its power, and if the smartphone shuts down during the process it may lead to bricking it.

  • Another important thing that you should know is that you will lose all your APN settings, so you won’t be able to access the Internet, so make sure you note them somewhere in your computer before starting the process, so you can easily restore them later.

Tutorial On How To Root Acer Iconica Tab A500:

  • First thing you have to turn off is the USB Debugging on your device, and make sure you also make a backup of your SD card because the data may be erased during the rooting process.

  • Next thing download the Gingerbreak Package on your machine and unzip ( if you are asked for a password enter androidadvices.com ) it on your desktop so you can access it easier. The¬†unzipped file will be Gingerbreak v1.2 APK. Now connect your device to the PC via USB and copy this file on your SD card.

  • Once the application is copied, go and install it on your tablet, open it and choose the ‘Root Device’ option.

  • After the process begins, have some patience because it will take some time to complete. Because the process will also erase the cache from your phone, it may take up to 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, on your computer, you will have to download and install the Busy Box application. After you install the SuperUser app on your tablet so it will work perfectly. If you want to take your phone back at warranty you can simply delete the Gingerbreak application and the rooting process will be revoked.
