How To Auto-Hide Address / URL Bar In Google Chrome / Chromium

Google Chorme is an open source web browser developed by Google. The web browser gets the name from the user interface. Chromium is the name of the open source project, and Chrome is the name of the product that was launched under the BDS licence.

The first version for Microsoft Windows was launched on September 2, 2008, with support for 43 languages. The Google Chrome versions for Mac OS X and Linux were released later.

The main reason why Google decided to build their own web browser was to improve security, speed and stability, and get ahead of the already existent web browsers, featuring a new user interface. Chrome was made of 25 code libraries from Google and other third party companies like Netscape.

Many of the Google Chrome users are loving its US, mostly because offers a lot of work space, because of the reduced size top area. But some, would like even more working space in Chrome, so here comes the Experimental Features page for them.

So, if you want to hide the address bar of your Chrome web browser, you came to the right place. Follow the below instructions and you will be able to further enlarge your working space in Chrome by hiding the URL bar:

  1. First you will have to open Google Chrome, and open a new tab.

  2. Now type “about:flags” in the Address Bar (without the quotation marks) then press the “Enter” button. A list of features you can enable or disable should appear in the new tab.

  3. Now search for the one named “Compact Navigation” and enable it, then close the web browser.

  4. Now open Chrome and you should notice that the changes took effect.

As you can see, the Navigation buttons and the Tool Menu buttons are now located in the Tab Bar. Now if you want to go to the URL bar all you have to do is click on the tab, and if you are not using it will automatically hide.

Anyway, note that this feature that helps you minimize the top UI of the browser, is only available for the Windows users, and only work for Chrome Dev, Canary, and Chromium
