How To Get Free US Phone Numbers

How To Get Free US Phone Numbers

Let’s say you want a US number but you are not located on American soil. What are the options for this to happen? For example many of the US online stores require such a number. Well although things are not so easy to be done there are some ways. A few years this would be one of those impossible dreams. Luckily for you, things have changed and I will present some services that will get you a free US phone number which will allow you to receive free incoming calls, receive free incoming SMS text messages, and make outgoing calls or send outgoing SMS text messages. This will happen at a very low cost and in some cases even free especially within US.

1st we will talk about Google Voice and what it has to offer.

Google Voice

For those of you who don’t know Google Voice provides a US DID phone number for its users. At some point I think this is one of the most reliable services available on the internet. This service will allow users to get an area code and the phone number. You need to know that all calls received on Google Voice are in fact diverted or forwarded to any other US phone number of your choice. And don’t forget about that redirect to Google Chat in Gmail for free. With this service all users will be able to call to any country and the price is pretty small. And if you desire to call in US and Canada the charge is free (now there is a barking that I always love).

The thing that is a little nasty is the fact that you need another US phone for verification. This will be a must have if you desire to register to Google Voice, because for the time being this service is only limited to people living in US. So basically all you need is another person living in the United State that can help you register to Google Voice. Make this thing happen because believe me, it’s worth the effort. I think from my point of view Google Voice is the ultimate choice for a free US phone number. Here is the link to Google Voice.

Another service that I have found to be very good is the IPKall one.

When we are speaking about IPKall we are actually speaking about SIP VoIP service. For those of you who don’t know this is a service that allows users to receive free calls over the Internet from any phone. This is so great that it allows you to receive these calls from anywhere and any moment. We are talking here about a service that is providing free Washington state phone number that you will be able to link to VoIP service through SIP protocol. So, you will need a VoIP service provider that will also support SIP, a SIP enabled device or softphone. With this SIP client users will be able to receive unlimited free incoming calls.

The great thing about IPKall is the fact it doesn’t have geographic restriction. This is making it one of the best “get free US number” things on the market so far. With other words you will be able to register a free US number regardless of where you are. One thing that needs to also be known is that your registration email address is not valid or you have been inactive for 30 days your account will be terminated.

Visit IPKall at this address.

I think this is the moment where we should talk about Whistle.

For those of you who didn’t hear about Whistle know that this is a VoIP service which will allow persons to provide a totally free US phone number and also provide the desired area codes. A nice feature is the fact that you will be able to make ad-supported call for free to contiguous 48 US states in the idea you will limit those calls at 20 minutes. There is even the international option that is available at a very low cost. When we are talking about receiving incoming calls, this service is not free and will charge you at around 1 cent per minute.

You will find a client for iOS, MAC and Windows. A nice thing about the iOS version is that you will be able to also double up as a SIP softphone client. You will have to register your app in a few days after you install the application. You can download Whistle Phone from here.

While searching over the internet for different services I have stumble upon VoxOx.

VoxOx is a nice free service with one purpose: to unify all that is related to phones under one service. We are talking here about texting, instant messaging, chatting, faxing, phone communications and even social networking, all of these things offered under one big single software and service. This service will give its users a personal US phone number random allocated if you don’t desire to pay any money. As you probably guessed there is also the version for a custom number that will make you pay a small sum of money (but where is the free in this option!).

You will use this free US phone number to forward calls to ring any and all of your phones. Also don’t forget about those send and receive faxes and text messages that you will be able to do. There is the support for routing based on callers and has voicemail. When we are talking about inbound calls, texts and faxes we are also talking about free charge. There will be some charges regarding calls, texts and faxes to landlines and mobile phones but the people from VoxOx assured us the costs will be very small.

If we were to compare this service to Google Voice I have to admit this one has more to offer. The only problem is that it’s totally new on the market and does it have the power to last? Regardless of that Voxox has client program for Windows and Mac OS X for free calls between Voxox clients. Regarding the Apple iOS this service will serves as a callback app.

You can sign up to VoxOx fallowing the provided link. There is no need of an US phone number as long as the carrier is supported. If all the details are OK you will receive an activation code in order to register.

And what is today communication without Skype having something to say.

This is a free service that will forward unlimited incoming calls to Skype. With other words meaning that all calls will be received on the Skype client. You have probably heard of SkypeIn (known as Online Number now). Well this is the same thing only that it’s free. You will get a free phone number that also has a private extension from over 100 locations worldwide. These locations will also include many big cities on US soil. Remember that all your calls will be received on your extension ring at your Skype.

One nice feature that I find very useful is the fact you can have more than one phone number with only one account. Although it’s not a ground breaking feature it can prove very useful in some cases. Sign up to the Ring2Skype fallowing this link.

Although I am not a big fan of this one I think there will be some people who would enjoy TextFree.

TextFree with Voice

If you own an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad this is probably one of the best ways to get a free US mobile phone number. Using this TextFree option, users will be able to get free unlimited texting and picture messaging (MMS) using their iOS devices or MMS. Also remember that all calls between TextFree clients are always free and also all the incoming calls. There are even some free minutes that you can earn by using and calling through this service.

This service can be installed from iTunes App Store.

As you probably figured out from the name of this service you will be able to provide free unlimited texting (SMS) with picture messaging (MMS) support on iOS devices. All of its users will be able to choose between a username or a real phone number. This will be done as we like it: totally free of charge. All you have to do is choose an area code and sit back and let your new number to be assigned. If you are one of those persons who don’t like any combination of numbers this will be a must use service because you can release the “ugly” combination and receive a new one. All the text messages you will send on US ground are totally free. With this service users will be able to enable voice calling, call forwarding and voicemail on iPod, iPad or iPhone.

You can install the TextNow service from iTunes App Store.

This is one service that will provide a dedicated textPlus phone number with which you will be able to text messages and also have a support for group multi-way text. You will be able to send messages to multiple carriers in US and Canada and of course between textPlus numbers totally free of charge. There is also the option for standard message rates that apply if you enable Regular Text Notifications in Account Settings. The textPlus service is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch trough iOS App Store and Android through Android Market. Being able to both major phones OS this will be probably a very used application and service.

We have another two services that I think you will find very useful.

The 1st one is HeyWire.

This can be a very effective service if you desire to get a US phone number for texting (SMSing) only. This is an app that will provide unlimited free texting to any mobile phone that is located in USA, Canada, Mexico and China. Also it will be supported by most of the mobile phones from Caribbean, South and Central America. And the free thing is like this: all SMS between two HeyWire phone numbers worldwide is always free. Also know that this is a service that perfectly integrates with things like Facebook and IM network. And let’s not forget about the short code to tweet with Twitter.

All that you need is an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Android in order to use this service. You must know that the Facebook app is not free if you don’t own a HeyWire account. Get this HeyWire app now.

The last but not lest is the Sipgate service.

From the start we can tell you this is a US-only SIP service which provides free phone service. You will also get a free US phone number for life, voicemail and fax-out service to replace existing land line or even a second line with no charge.

The free thing in the equation is that the service provides one free U.S. number for one user. You will need a SIP-client to make or receive call with Sipgate. Things like incoming calls are totally free. And of course that all calls from Sipgate to Sipgate are for free. The bill for other domestic and international calls will be very small letting you enjoy one nice service.

So there you have it folks. We presented a few ways to get some free US numbers and also have almost everything that is related to communication for free. I am sure there are other ways out there on the market that offer all the things presented above but from our experience these ones are the most “free” and easy to use.

So, the next time you want to let us know something and you are too lazy to write a comment just put your hand on the phone and call us. It’s free after all thanks to us!
