How To Completely Remove Applications And Programs From Mac OS X

Applications can be easily removed from your Windows computer, just by accessing the ‘Add Remove Programs’ or ‘Uninstall Programs and Features’ links in the Control Panel. Normally, removing an applications is easy, as you simply have to click uninstall and Windows will take care of the rest by deleting all the files a program needs in order to work correctly when it is installed on your system, but when we get to Mac OS X computers, all the steps that you need to take in order to remove a program are completely different and this post contains all the info on how to do it.

To uninstall completely a program from your Mac system requires you to closely follow the instructions listed in the removal guide and then you will see that there won’t be any other trace left of the applications you removed. But, in order to do it, you will have to download some other program whose tools have been created to help Mac users remove installed applications and programs from Mac OS X. The application that you will have to use is free and its name is AppCleaner. Below you can find the instructions on how to download, install and use the AppCleaner program in order to completely remove program and applications from your Mac system:

  1. First thing that you will need, is the AppCleaner program. Download it from here.

  2. Install the AppCleaner program for Mac.

  3. Launch AppCleaner and open its settings menu.

  4. Make sure that the ‘SmartDelete’ function is enabled, if not, please enable it yourself. Save all settings.

  5. Now select the application / program that you wish to completely remove and uninstall from your PC. To add the program you wish to remove, simply drag and drop it for removal.

  6. Now, the SmartDelete feature will display all the other files that are related to the application you currently are trying to remove.

  7. Wait for AppCleaner to complete the removal application and when you’re done, close it.

These were all the steps that you had to take in order to successfully remove the programs and applications from your Macbook system. An alternate method, is to configure AppCleaner to scan your Mac’s HDD for all the applications and small utilities that you have installed.
