How To Update / Upgrade Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 To Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread XWKDD

The smartphone that everyone expected, Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100, has hit the market. We have good news for those that were able to get their hands on¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 running on Android 2.2 Froyo and want to upgrade their device to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. A firmware update for¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 have leaked on the web, and it’s called Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread XWKDD. The Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread XWKDD for¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 comes with some new features and with some fixed bugs, so why not have it on your device. But remember that Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread XWKDD is not an official firmware release by Samsung. It’s the beta version Samsung uses for testing.

  2. You should notice that you will get three files: “EXT4.pit,” “Odin 3 v1.83.exe” and “I9100XWKDD_XXKDC_XXKDH.zip.” Extract the ZIP file in order to get the PDA file you will need to install Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread on¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100.

  3. Now, open Oding, by double-clicking the icon (you should be able to find it on your desktop, if you extracted the ZIP file as instructed above). In the Odin window, make sure that you leave the “Flash lock” option unchecked and that you check the “Re-Partition,” “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” boxes.

  4. Now, switch off your Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 and get your device in¬†download mode. In order to do that press and hold the “Volume Down” and “OK” buttons together, then press the “Power” button. Now your device should boot in download mode. If you see the android logo with the “Downloading… do not turn off target!!!” message below, it means that your¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 has entered download mode.

  5. Connect your¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 to the PC using the USB data cable you received with the device. You should notice that the “ID:COM” box turns yellow. Do not panic if it’s not happening right away, because it takes time to load all the drivers needed to install Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread

  6. Click the “PIT” button, navigate and upload the “EXT4.pit” file (you should be able to find it on your desktop if you extracted the ZIP file as instructed). Check the “PDA” box, then click the “PDA” button. Navigate and select “I9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100OXXKDC_HOME” file you extracted from the¬†”I9100XWKDD_XXKDC_XXKDH.zip” file

  7. Double-check that you provided the files correctly and that you¬†enabled¬†the correct options (by checking the boxes next to them). If done correctly click the “Start” button form the Odin “Control Panel” field. Now Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread XWKDD will be installed on your¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100.

After the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread is installed on your Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100, you should be able to notice the “PASS” box turns green and your device will restart. Disconnect your¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 from the computer by removing the USB cable. Now perform a full reset in order to clear the cache memory of the previous firmware on your device. Go to your¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 dialing pad and type¬†*2767*3855#, in order to perform a full reset. Now dial *#12343 to check the firmware version on your device. You should be able to see that your¬†Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 now runs on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread XWKDD.
