How To Root Sony Ericsson Xperia Play On Android 2.3 Gingerbread

The smartphone was first seen at the Super Bowl ad on February 6, 2011, and and MWC 2011 we found out that the device will be available for sale all over the world, starting March 2011. In the United States, when the smartphone was launched it was available only at Verizon. But a little later, carriers in the United Kingdom, such as Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile, and Orange announced that the smartphone will be available in their retail shops as well.

The great news is that the ninjas at XDA discovered the easiest rooting tutorial ever. By rooting your device you gain access to the system so users can install certain apps that you cannot install without the actual process.

Keep in mind that the root method flashes a rooted OS firmware of the smartphone, so pay attention below at the tutorial:

  1. Be sure that you have the bootloader unlocked on your device.

  2. Now go and download R800i WORLD .184 ( play_modded.img ) on your desktop.

  3. Set up ADB on your computer

  1. Go on your computer and launch the ‘Command Prompt’. In case you are working on a Mac OS X or Linux, open the ‘Terminal’.

  2. Copy the downloaded image file ( play_modded.img ) to the fastboot directory in the ADB program.

  3. Now pay attention and write this command:

    • Windows: fastboot flash system play_modded.img

    • Linux: fastboot -i 0x0fce flash system play_modded.imgLinux

    • Mac OS X: fastboot-mac -i 0x0fce flash system play_modded.img

  4. Now have a little patience and wait for a while so that the process will automatically complete itself. After this, the smartphone will automatically reboot and you’re finished.
