How To Change The Default Media Player / File Associations In Windows 7

If you have Windows 7 operating system, you may know that you can custom set up your default media player. So, if you want to change the default media player that opens your audio and video file, read the following article. But only some players are available in the default menu. So, if you want a certain player, first you must to download and install it, and then you will be able to set up it.

Here are the steps for How To…:

  1. First you must to click on the “Start” button.

  2. Now you must to click the “Default Programs” button.

  3. Here click on the “Set your default programs”.

  4. Simply click to the media player that you want to set like default.

  5. And finally click “OK” button.

If your¬†preferred player don’t appear in the Set Default Program menu, here are the steps for How To Change File¬†Associations:

  1. First you must to click on the “Start” button.

  2. Now click on the “Default Programs”.

  3. Now click on the “Associate a file type or a protocol with a specific program” button.

  4. You must to click on a file type, a file that is associated with your previous media player.

  5. Click on the “Change Program” button.

  6. Press “Browse” button and select your certain player from the list, and click on the “OK” button.

  7. To change your default media player press again the “OK” button.

You can repeat these steps for each file type that you want to change the default player.
