Windows Repair is a malware program that tricks users into thinking that it contains tools that you can use to analyze and optimize your computer’s components. It uses trojans along with pop-ups displayed by bogus web pages, telling you that your system’s security level is low and that you should use Windows Repair to scan the PC for errors.

All those alerts are fake and you should have ignored them, but since you found this post, it means that you clicked them and now your computer is infected with the Windows Repair virus. However, you shouldn’t worry too much, because in this post you will find the exact steps that you have to take in order to get rid of the infection. Windows Repair automatically downloaded and installed itself on your PC and after you restart the PC and Windows is about to resume desktop, Windows Repair will change the startup applications and it will be the first program to start-up. Now, it takes control over all the executables in your PC and it won’t allow you to launch a real antivirus program.

This infections displays numerous false error alerts, that have been created in order to fool you into thinking that your system’s hard drive contains error and that you need to use Windows Repair to fix them. But, since Windows Repair is in fact a virus, then it means that it doesn’t contain not even a single defragging or optimizing component and you should avoid clicking any pop-up displayed by it. Windows Repair doesn’t allow you to run programs nor to delete files. Also, this virus will ask you to boot the system in Safe Mode, but instead of displaying a normal Safe Mode screen, Windows Repair will show its own Safe Mode background, that fakes a scanning process. Prepare your PC for the virus removal process

Before we get to the first step of the virus removal guide, you need to know the following two things:

  • you need to print out the virus removal guide or you can choose to open this webpage on a nearby computer and follow the instructions from it. Windows Repair Virus / Malware Removal Guide
  1. Download iExplore.exe application from here. This program is a malicious process killer and it will stop Windows Repair from running.

  2. Launch iExplore.exe and wait for it to close all malware programs. DO NOT RESTART the PC, because if you do it, all the maliware processes will be re-enabled. Get straight to the next step.

  3. Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from here. This is the application that you will use to scan and remove the infections present in your system. When the download of MBAM setup installer is complete, close all the running programs.

  4. Install Malwarebytes’ without changing any of its default settings. Only when you reach the last screen of the installation process, you need to make sure that both, Update Malwarebytes’ and Launch Malwarebytes’ options are checked. Now click Finish. DO NOT RESTART the computer. Get straight to the next step.

  5. MBAM will start now and it will ask you if you wish to update it, but considering that it already performed such action, you can click OK and then get to the next step.

  6. Now you should see MBAM’s Scanner menu, select ‘Perform Full Scan’ option and then click SCAN.

  7. Now the scanning is in progress and Malwarebytes’ will look for all the malicious files in your system. Please note that the scanning process will last for a while and you should wait for it to scan your entire computer. When the scan is completed, you will be notified by Malwarebytes’. Click OK and get to the next step.

  8. Now you see the Scanner menu, again, but this time you have to click on Show Results.

  9. At the scanning results screen you need to select all the Windows Repair and other malware files for removal. Click on ‘Remove Selected’ and Malwarebytes’ will start to remove all the malicious file found in your PC. Wait for it to finish and if MBAM asks you to restart the PC, allow it to do so. After Windows resumes desktop, MBAM will continue with the rest of the removal process.

  10. When all Windows Repair virus files have been successfully removed, MBAM will open a scanning log in Notepad. Look through all of them and then close it.

  11. Now close Malwarebytes.

  • Unhide.exe. Download it from here. Double click it and confirm all of its actions.

When the Unhide program restores the original state of your system files, you can close it.
