How To Disable Sleep Mode And Change The Power Button In Windows 7

By doing this, it will allow users to turn on their systems much faster than a regular boot to run. Windows 7 has the default option to put your machine to sleep automatically after some time, and also sets the physical Power Button to act as Sleep instead of Shut Down. The great news is that you can change these settings as you like:

Disable Automatic Sleeping:

  1. Go to ‘Start’ menu, enter ‘Control Panel’ => ‘System and Maintenance => ‘Power Options’

  2. Click on ‘Change plan settings’

  3. Now go to ‘Put the computer to sleep’ menu and click ‘Never’

  4. Now go to ‘Save Changes’ and close the window

Change what the Power Button does:

  1. Go to ‘Start Menu’ => ‘Control Panel’ => ‘System and Maintenance’ => ‘Power Options’ => ‘Change plan settings’

  2. Click on ‘Change advanced power settings’

  3. Next to ‘Power buttons and lid’ click the ‘+’ and then ‘Power button action’

  4. Go to ‘Settings’ menu and select ‘Shut Down’ => ‘OK’ and close the window
