Note: The RAR archives are password-protected. The password for both files is “samsung-firmwares.com” (without the¬†quotation marks).

Download the desired Firmware version then extract it on your desktop (use WinRAR or 7Zip). Do the same with the Odin 3 v1.0 RAR file.

Now you are ready to update your Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.2 Froyo. This tutorial is for Android 2.2 Froyo i9000XXJP2 (things work the same for¬†Android 2.2 Froyo i9000XXJP1).¬†Here’s what you have to do:

  1. Remove SIM and memory card from your device. Restart your Galaxy S (do that by holding down “Power,” “Home” and “Volume Down” buttons in the same time). A download screen should appear

  2. Start Odin application from your desktop

  3. You should be able to see the “PIT” box. Click on the “PIT” button and browse for¬†s1_odin_20100512.pit and load it

  4. Click the “PDA” box, navigate and load¬†I9000XXJP2-REV03-PDA-CL464213.tar (you will find it in the¬†I9000XXJP2 archive you already extracted)

  5. Click the “PHONE” box, navigate to MODEM_I9000XXJP2.tar file (also found in the I9000XXJP2 archive)¬†and load it

  6. In the “CSC” box, browse for the¬†GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJP2.tar you extracted from the¬†I9000XXJP2 archive

  7. Check the “Re-Partition” box, you should be able to see it on the left of the Odin application

  8. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S to the PC using its data cable. Enable USB Debugging (do this by going to Menu, then taping System. Select Applications > Development. Tap USB Debugging to enable it)

  9. In Odin, click the “Start” button.

  10. Wait

  11. You just upgraded your Samsung Galaxy S to Android 2.2 Froyo
