How to Update / Upgrade Samsung Galaxy S To Android 2.2 Froyo With Kies

Great news for you smartphone lovers because Android 2.2 ( Froyo ) is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S but it might take some time before it gets to you, depending on your region. If you don’t see the update yet, go to your System Settings and manually check for it.

If this process won’t work either, just follow this great tutorial on how to install Android 2.2 on the Samsung Galaxy S:

  1. Download the Samsung Kies version and install it on your personal computer.

  2. Connect your smartphone via USB to your computer and open the Kies application.

  3. Keep your Kies app in the background but make sure not to close it.

  4. In Windows, open RUN, type RegEdit and hit Enter. This will prompt to you the Registry Editor of Windows.

  5. In the¬†Registry Editor go to¬† ‚ÄúHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSamsungKiesDeviceDB‚ÄĚ

  6. You will notice some folders. Just open them one at a time and find your smartphone’s¬†current firmware and IMEI information.

  7. After you find the required folder, modify the following strings like this:

  • SoftwareRevision = I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3

  • ProductCode = GT-I9000HKDXEE

  • HIDSWVER = I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3

8. Close the Registry Editor and hit Refresh several times.

9. Now prompt the Kies app one again and hit the Firmware Upgrade button. Just install the update so you can enjoy Android 2.2 on your smartphone.
