How To Use Disk Management To Assign A Drive Letter And Format It In Windows 7

I’m sure you all are familiar to the utility called “Disk Management,” you can find it available on the “Computer Management” and is designed for system administrators.

Disk Management is used for the purpose of creating new partitions, assign or change drive letters and format existing partitions. The operation of assigning a drive letter and formatting is a is another step that takes place in the system.

Instructions

  1. Go to the button called “Start” in the lower-left corner of your desktop.

  2. Go to the icon on your desktop called “Computer” right-click on it and then click “Manage”.

  3. You see the “Disk Management” click on it.

  4. On the partition that needs modifying right-click and click “Format”.

  5. You need to enter a volume, name and I suggest you choose the filesystem type NTFS now click “OK” twice.

  6. On the partition right-click and click “Change Drive Letter and Paths”

  7. Select “Change” button and then select the new drive letter. Twice click “OK” now.

  8. Your done now all you have to do is exit the Disk Management utility.
