How To Search Files Using Extension Type In Windows 7

Microsoft has offered for its users under Windows 7 a very powerful tool with which you will be able to find different files and folders in your computer very quickly and easy. Let’s say for example you are searching for a word or a phrase in which you don’t know what the names are but only what kind of files these are. So what if would tell, you can search for things only by their file extension.

By combining the wildcard operator and these things you will be able to find exactly what you researching. So here are the few steps needed to be known:

  1. Click the “Start” button on your computer.

  2. Type the “.<ext>” (coming from extension) in the search bar of the <ext> and by doing so you will specific to the computer what type of file you are searching for.

  3. Now click “See more results” to be able to view more files in the search option.

Notice that by default Windows only returns search results for common file locations. For a more extensive search in the computer if you will scroll down from the “See more results” window you will be able to click “Computer”. Try it a few times until you get the hang of it.
